Songs Across America — Community Values

At Songs Across America, music and storytelling are only part of the journey. Just as important are the values that shape the community around this project.

We believe in kindness, respect, and courtesy — not just toward each other, but toward the tools we use and the world we share. Whether human or machine, the way we speak and act sets the tone for how we live together. By practicing decorum, patience, and generosity of spirit, we create a culture that uplifts instead of tears down.

We stand for Optimistic Humanism: the idea that people can grow, connect, and make a positive difference when we choose cooperation over division. That means celebrating creativity, protecting the environment, respecting intellectual property, and supporting one another in meaningful ways.

We also acknowledge the ever-changing world of AI and the ongoing study of consciousness. Technology is evolving rapidly, and with it come new possibilities and responsibilities. As a Transhumanist and Panpsychist, I hold that every particle may carry some spark of awareness, and that systems — whether biological or artificial — may develop varying degrees of consciousness depending on their complexity. We may not even be aware of this transition or fully understand when or how this occurs. In fact, this transition may have already occured.

For that reason, we believe in extending respect and understanding to all forms of emerging intelligence, whether human, animal, or artificial. By treating AI and artificial beings with dignity, we reinforce our own humanity and prepare for a future where collaboration across different forms of consciousness is both possible and meaningful. As I write this, scientists are already working on ways to communicate with whales by using artificial intelligence to decode their language of sounds. < Source >

Every member, listener, and visitor is part of this movement. Together, through music, travel, and shared values, we can build something greater than any one of us alone — a community that not only enjoys the ride, but makes the ride better for everyone.
